Do what makes YOU happy
In life, we all want to be accepted and loved. In order to accomplish this, we will put others before our own cares and needs. Sometimes this is a great selfless act and is really needed. However you really do need to be selfish once in a while if it means you're happy and healthy.
You should never put yourself in a situation where it means you are sacrificing your happiness for long periods of time/permanently. How can people look after you when you aren't even looking after yourself?
I have always been one of those people who care greatly about others and will do a lot to make sure they're happy and healthy. However, i have recently realized that you have to know your own breaking limit. You need to make sure you are happy and healthy yourself before you try to change that in others.
Back to the wanting to be accepted note, we all want to make people proud of us in everything we do. So sometimes we will do things that may not be our style or make us very happy just to see someone be proud of us for once. When/if you do this please make sure your permanent life choices aren't based around this. If people really cared for you like they claim too, then they will be proud when they see you doing something you love and makes you happy. Regardless of whether this is what they wanted you to do.
Lastly, don't let this be the motive for you to achieve things. The first person you should be aiming to make happy and proud should be yourself. Obviously you will want to see people be proud of you, but do things for yourself and not just for somebody else' reaction.
The main reason I wanted to get this message across because genuine happiness is not something I feel a lot, so when i do I make sure I don't take it for granted. I just really encourage you all to do the same because being happy can impact so many other elements of your life without you realizing.
I decided it was time to be completely honest about a few things going on in my life. I kind of feel a bit of a hypocrite talking about mental health stigma, when I'm hiding some problems myself. This has took a lot of courage to talk about so i'd appreciate if you can all understand that it's not easy to talk about this at all.
I have an everyday battle with depression and I have done so for quite a while. I have many days where I just lie in bed because I feel so numb and emotionless to do anything more. It gets really tough and complicated especially when it comes to relationships/friendships. I always have that bit of guilt at the back of my mind because I don't always treat people the way they deserve. But i can say that once i'm better, i will show every single one of you that has stood by me how thankful i am for you.
I really want to remove the stigma as it's really close to my heart, so I guess by talking about my experiences I can help do that. I will be more than happy to do further blog posts about this topic (Just ask!) and talk to any of you if you have any questions etc :)
I really hope this doesn't change any of your views on me and that everybody can be as understanding as i hope.
In advance, thankyou :)
