What's your Cinnamon Rolls?

Like the rest of the nation I have taken up baking during lock down and enjoyed eating all of my creations. I started out easy with classic cookies and flapjacks (See my post for an easy recipe) and then ventured into bread baking.

After a while I fancied a new challenge and saw myself as quite the Mary Berry. A few friends posted their Cinnamon Rolls on Insta and I was convinced. I have such  a sweet tooth so Cinnamon Rolls are my idea of a good time.

Long story short- they were not meant to be. They failed massively and provided my Instagram followers with a lot of amusement. I saw the funny side, however I wasn’t rushing back to try again anytime soon.

I let my pride and perfectionism stop me from trying again. I accepted that because it wasn’t a one time wonder creation that it simply was not meant to be. To some people this will seem OTT and dramatic. However I know I’m not alone in feeling like I have to smash it first time. I was chatting to a good friend about this and was so reassured that it wasn’t just me feeling this way.

We so often let our lack of perfectionism stop us from learning and growing at a certain craft. However I am trying to stop listening to those lies and to press into the art of being less than perfect. The likelihood of me ever reaching my expectations is pretty slim anyway.

I also think social media and people posting their “highlight” reel has a part to play in us wanting to reach perfect. We rarely see others journeys, but often see the result that has been practised and worked hard at. I don’t ever want to stop celebrating those wins that you have worked hard for.

However I would love to challenge everyone (myself included) to post our journey, even if that looks like a failure. We all need to ‘fail’ at things to realise and appreciate when we do it well.

What’s your cinnamon buns? Is there something in your life that you’re holding back from trying because of the fear of failure? If so, just do it. If you fail or see it as a fail, instead of giving up learn from it and try again. Invite others into your journey, seeking advice from those who have succeeded.

Lots of love
Charlie x
