Be a Blessing

I was having a chat with a lovely couple from my church whom I value very highly. They came over for dinner (I got to try out my NEW slow cooker- 10/10 recommend!) and they were saying how they so often host and cook meals that they never get invited out. Then it hit me.

We’re such consumers.

As a student in church, we’re highly blessed with families who love to support us by cooking, praying, chatting to us. However it’s so very rare we ever invite them over, ask what we can pray for and invest in their life.

If you’re reading this and you do this, then well done you. I am clearly late to the party haha.

Ever since that conversation it’s been on my mind how much we take those gestures for granted. So In response to this, I am going to try and be a blessing to those who bless me.

Now I have an awful lot of blessings to catch up on, but I’m ready!

I am sooo guilty of this too but being a student doesn’t mean you can’t host. Just because your house may be freezing and there’s less space doesn’t mean they won’t appreciate it.

So here’s my encouragement that being a student doesn’t stop you from blessing others. In fact we’re taught in the bible about those who give out when they have so little.

I’m going to leave a few suggestions on ways to bless others that may match your capacity.
·

  •      Invite someone over for tea and coffee after a Sunday service. It’s such a small gesture but could really make their day.
  •          Offer to babysit for/hang out with any parents who may be struggling. Everybody loves a baby fix!
  •          Get together with a few students and cook a meal together to bless somebody you may know. This could be turning up at their house with food or going the step further and hosting them.
  •           Look out for those with no plans after church and invite them to whatever you’re doing.

There’re so many things we can do, so this is just scratching the surface. Have a think, get creative and see who you can bless this week!
