Comparision

So i guarantee everyone reading this has compared themselves to another person or object at least once. Comparison is very common in teenagers especially, but most of us do it. In a way it is only part of our instincts as we all get envious, but it is also really unhealthy. If you're constantly wishing to be something else, then you can't really ever love yourself can you? Then how do you expect somebody else too if you can't.

There is a fine line between passively saying "I like her hair I wish mine fell like that" and saying "I like her hair, why can't I be like her. she's so much of a better person than me". There will be times where you will be jealous of somebody's appearance or their talent or personality etc. But their qualities or skills do not define your qualities or skills. What I mean by that Is just because somebody's qualities are high, it doesn't make you any better than them or any worse. Nobody can compare themselves fully as we're all unique and individual. Whether you compare yourself to someone or they compare themselves to you, it shouldn't change your behavior.

Now personally I struggle with comparison massively and it affects my life on a daily basis. I will often talk to my friends about it and most of them will agree it is affecting them just as much. So I know how hard it can be to not compare yourself, especially when you're having a rubbish day. But I find a good thing to remember is we're all very different and nobody is perfect, so myself and everyone around me all have flaws. Also that we shouldn't put our identity in our looks, personality, talent etc, so it shouldn't matter.

I understand all I've just said is easier said than done, but it is worth a try. I would love to live in a society where everybody was confident in themselves and they wanted to be themselves, not anybody else.
You're all "perfect" in your own way, with flaws that just add to you. (That was very cringe, however very true.)
