Body shaming anybody is wrong.
So before i dive into this topic, I've chosen to give some reasoning to this post. Personally, I've never been the most confident person when it comes to looks or body shape. I know I'm also not the only one who has had issues with this growing up/still do now. The medias control over society is very powerful. This leads me to why i chose to write this on a social MEDIA site. If the media has the control it does now on what body shape is "perfect", then why can't my post have the same effect. So my wish is that in the next five years there will be no perfect body shape and the media will be supporting this and encouraging young people to love their own body.
So in the last ten years, the media have had the illusion that people with a smaller frame make better models than people with a larger frame. This is wrong. The media have no right to say what body shape makes a better model. In fact nobody has that right at all. But in the last few years, Song writers, authors, journalist and other sources have tried to banish that. I really do respect them for trying to change the horrible mindset, however I don't agree with the way most have gone about it.
So most of you will have heard the song "All about that bass- Meghan Trainor". I really like the tune and find it a catchy song. However the lyrics I do not agree with at all. They have completely spun the media mindset around, by saying you have to be a larger frame for a guy to like you. This is completely body shaming anybody who isn't of that frame. The song lyrics includes "my momma told me don't worry about your size", which is great because nobody should. Then the next lyric is "Boys like a little more booty to hold at night"...!? That's being a complete hypocrite to the previous line. grrr. It also refers to smaller framed people as "skinny bitches", which i find rather rude. It's not acceptable to call somebody that because you don't like the way they are.
This is just one example of many that body shames smaller framed people. We have gone from one extent to another!
I personally believe that If you're happy and healthy then your body shape is regardless. In life there is so specific time where you need a certain body shape to be happy, so why do society tell us different?
I was unsure whether to mention a personal story at the end, but i feel so strong about this topic that I feel it would benefit it. So when I was younger i always had such a small frame and would often be called "skinny". It really didn't bother me as i was only young and didn't really understand the difference between me and every other child my age. But when i got to around the age of 12, I started to understand the difference between people who were my body shape or another body shape. I really wasn't all that fussed about it and was happy as i was. Then when i was 14 (ish) I started to really dislike being called skinny or slim. This was all because the media around me was saying it was better to be bigger and have curves. Being a curve-less 14 year old, I started to really dislike my body and would binge as much as i could so i was just what society wanted. This didn't happen as i have a fast metabolism, so I found it extremely hard to put on weight. Two years later I'm still not big or curvy, due to the same reasons. Now I wish the end of the story was that I'm happy the way I am and that everybody should follow through like that.
However I'm really not happy with my body shape and I truly believe that media is to blame for this.
I just want change to happen to media's attitude to body shape so that the next generations can grow up in a society where they feel accepted no matter what they look like.
