Are books losing popularity?
Are books losing popularity?
So personally i believe they are. Now let me explain my reasons why.
So many years ago before technology most people would read books as a pastime out of enjoyment. Now that color TV'S, mobile phones and the internet are around less and less people are reading books. Also a high number of the population would prefer to watch the film as it's easier and requires less concentration. This means that the majority of people my generation (Late 1990's+) are just not interested in reading in fear of looking uncool and like a "nerd". Now obviously it is in the curriculum to read when you first start school, so most people can actually read they just chose not too. Me being an avid reader and lover of books cannot see this nonsense. but unfortunately it's the truth of today's society.
So my second reasoning is fairly similar to the first as it's also down to technology. So i'm sure you've all heard of E-readers and kindles, right? well most people see this is as more convenient and smaller than buying 100's of actual books. Which i can fully understand them reasons, but for me that has killed reading. If everyone just buys books on E-reader and kindles then that leaves book stores and library's out of business, which will destroy many book lovers hearts. There is nothing better than flicking through pages and having the tension building when you cannot turn the page, but need to know what happens next. Also that smell to a new book when you first open it is HEAVENLY (please tell me i'm not the only one who thinks this). I also just love wondering through book stores for hours, until i find that book i feel like i should have had in my life years ago.
So as you can see i will always prefer to read a traditional book than on a kindle or E-reader. I really hope that books don't die out due to technology taking over.
please let me know in the comments if you feel my pain too :)
